Post Guild Wars is not dying because...

...There's still a lot of people playing it still and no real comptition between now and GW2 (that I know about) to make them stop and not come back.

Now that doesn't mean some of us aren't looking forward to GW2 going down in flames for messing up the level system among other reasons, but that's another thread.

If you were expecting a long rant, tough cookies. If you have your own reasons why you think GW isn't dying feel free to add them.

Guild Wars is dead to one, alive to another. That's my only opinion on it really.

Been playing 28 months, still going strong. It's a game, I'll worry about now, not about later (IE:Gw2).

Another dieing thread....

Anywho, i think people freak because alot of veteran players stop playing as much or stop playing all together. Alot of people see their friends list start to dissappear. But new players keep joining in, now if those new players are enough to over come the people leaving is the question.

I think for the holiday season we will see an increase in play for the whole month of Dec, then a drop off in the middle of Jan. This is a game. People will get board and move on to something else.

As far as competition for GW between now and GW2, i semi agree. Are you talking about MMO's in general or all games. Because it is the season for new and blockbuster games to come out and most are on consoles. As far as MMO's go, i rather like the look of Aion or Age of Conan. GW was and still is a terrific game. It better be for the thousands of hours i have put into it. But for me, i am no longer addicted to GW. I am looking forward to a game that can capture or pull me into it as GW once did. And thats not a bad thing.

The game isnt dead, and I don't see it dieing anytime soon. Now Archlord... THERES a dead mmo.

But back to guildwars, I hadn't been in the ascalon area recently, but decided to go through the missions n such in the area the other day and was surprised to see there are still just as many people in each outpost as there has been in the last year and a half. Maybe not as populated as back in first year of game, but still decent. Cantha is a little closer to death, there are at least a dozen empty outposts there.
But over all gw is still alive and kickin, and will be even after gw2 releases.

Guild Wars is far from dying. There are loads of people still playing, only spread out across many districts across all 4 games. Just because you get immensely bored with a game does not mean it's anywhere near doomsday.

It's not dieing to me, because i still enjoy it and see plenty of others playing too. It wouldn't matter to me if it was dieing and the population was shrinking. As long as i can H/H PvE, and have some friends to talk to, i'm good.

The amount of W/Mo's charging around ascalon is of no interest to me.

Lolwut? AB's are fun? Really? In which world?

GW is kinda dying, really. New players coming? So what? They'll get bored soon, there are better games out there. Quake Wars, Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Team Fortress 2, WoW (yeah, I know, flame me), The Witcher... Whatever whoever likes.

Unless someone is excited about GW's ,,balanced'' PvP (u r r6? no? cya) or ,,original'' PvE (team lf r6 ursanway! u rn't ursanway? cya), he will just stop playing.

GWG is the place where a lot of the players that did most of the GW content (l33t?) meet, so it's pretty normal that people feel that the game is dying. I for example got the Protector of Cantha title this morning, so it should give some perspective (still have a lot to do, will probably not be able to do it before GW2). And I don't think my situation is that rare in the GW community. On the other hand, it's weird to say this in Riverside, where al the "blasés" meet, whine and share opinions on "what I think will happen/is needed".

I guess that the closer we get to GW2, the more GWG people (or shall I say "GWG Riverside" people?) will find the week-end events and other updates irrelevant. It may time to take a break from GW? (this is the danger of the period we're living in, Anet will do something good with GW, but people may start playing on things like SC2 or other stuff and may be too busy in 1-2 years time)

Guild wars is fine and in fairly good health, just read the posts on many of the forums, critisism is fine its apathy that kills off games.

WOW on the other hand is definitly dying, just saw the commercial with William Shatner.
Anyone who would hire him to drum up custom must really be in trouble.

yeah yeah ok Star Trek was great but one role does not an actor make

People who call this game "dead" are only doing so based on their own opinions and assumptions. It has nothing to do with the truth and has no real value because we don't have access to any real numbers on active players or new registered accounts. As long as the game is being played by many it can't be dead.

If you wanna call GW dead go ahead, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Whenever people claim GW is not a dying game I just think of the community in 05' and the community now. Back in 05' you had groups forming for general farming, running, uw, fow, sf, etc. Almost every town would have at least 2 districts and the economy was great. PvP was great too. People actually had fun in HA (even spiritspam days were fun) and GvG was amazing. Now everyone rolls PvE with heroes and henches and grinds titles. Economy? I don't think I've played a game with a worse economy. Don't even start with PvP. HA is terrible, GvG is terrible. The guilds everyone loved watching and playing against have left, factions+nf have destroyed any chances, ironically when you think about it, of variety and the huge number of inactive/smurf guilds have screwed the ladder.

gw is not dying.. its dead ^^

So? There are still plenty of people doing that, so the playerbase isn't gone (which would define a dead game). It's just that now we are not forced to group with retards.

As much as i hate to admit it, GW is kinda dying, at least right now... the most dense populations of places you find are in LA, Kamadan, and KC... as those don't go above 7-8 dis if we are lucky. I wish every day was like the halloween events were I saw over 100 districts :-)

Nuclear Launch Detected.... Impact in 20 minutes.

People who believe the game is dead have either quit, are taking a break, or need to choose one of those two options.

People who don't think the game is dying are playing the game and enjoying it.

i have seen alot of these threads as of recent on here about GW dying ... the question and answer seems to be is it dying? , In some ways yes it is and in others it isnt ... as of recent ive been playing some other games online myself kinda takin a gw break [sometimes its needed] of course i still play reg but not as i used too, but in these games on these forums for them theres alot and i do mean alot of past and present gw players that share this same enthusiasm of GW dying or has already died for most. So is this a viable arguement?.... of course it is in some ways ...

in reflection is the population same as it was same last summer NO
is it goin to get back there No
will the new players that are coming on board be enuff to hold and sustain gw life ... not this late in the stage.
see theres a point behind vet players leaving and new players coming No one to teach them which then leads to these gawd awful builds that have produced such noob builds as ursanway for instance and sux the fun outta the game and thats just the pve side ... pvp the new players have NO CHANCE In Hell of accomplishing what was already set and accomplished on the tru trials and tribulations of a good HA environment or gvg environment. I mean come one thats why anet suckd the fun outta glad title made it easier to achieve cos they knew new players would never get to where they wanted on the isles without some sort of compensation to them [knew itd never happen in HA probably another reason for thinking about giving a gladiator emote too Cos in HA well new ppl pretty much out the question especially as dead as it is now atleast for high rankin emotes].. i mean as a person who loves smash mouth pvp its just not as serious as it once was here [ another reason vets are gone along with other things such as bad nerfs based on inbalance between the two sides of play]. So what they say they sold 4 million copies of gw campaigns btw thats cross all 3 games and the EoTn's sales are somewhat explanatory heck i bet theres no more than about 500,000 ppl playing all together right now which is still large by far but not the total population of what they truly could have and probably more casual than hardcore....but that doesn't mean gw wasn't already dying when they were sold and needless to say even most vets opinions of EoTn were mixxed and due to the lack of giving their pvp environment anything new.... well there went alot of ur vets right there ....take WoW for instance u dont honestly believe they have 9 million ppl playing right now ... thats 9 million games sold or maybe accnts activated an impressive number by far but still was over time and like all things it too will one day DIE...

overall is gw dead? ...NO but it served itself a deadly throat needle awhile back that now continues to fill its embodiment with a toxic poison slowly killing it and it knows its current death is inevitable... btw i love this game and am eagerly anticipatin any and all words of ANYTHING NEW and upcoming be it for gw or gw2, but with most focus on the new game why have to bring ppl back or worry bout a population means time needing to be reinvested back here which means delay for the new big project and seeing how their alliance [ncsoft] recently had a blow to the head with TRasa in a sense they know that the par has been set very high not only cos of the success of gw now but bc of its possible success in the future. This team here at Anet set a new standard of excellence as well as a new par for all new games trying to come into the genre while reinventing a new MMO structure which is a hole nutha thread ..lol but the hats go off to them and with that power now comes great responsibility lets just enjoy it before it does DIE
